Life Support Equipment Certification

Do Your Household Require Electricity to Power Equipment?

Life Support Equipment Certification – Western MA

If someone in your household requires electricity to power life-sustaining medical equipment, Eversource wants to ensure we can properly support you during a storm or other emergency that may cause power outages. Please have your physician certify, in writing, that equipment is being used for life support.

The letter must specifically state:

  • That electric powered life-sustaining equipment is being used by you or a member of your household.
  • The type of electric powered equipment being used.
  • The patient’s name, address, and a primary and alternate contact number.

The letter must be signed by a medical doctor, on letterhead and mailed to:

Eversource, P.O. Box 330 Manchester, NH 03105-0330

When the letter is received, your household will be enrolled in our life support notification program. To maintain this enrollment, certification must be updated annually.

Benefits of Certifying

  • Enhanced Communication. For customers relying on electricity to power life-sustaining medical equipment, power outages can be life threatening. Once your medical condition has been certified by your doctor, we may contact you during a power outage to ensure your safety and wellbeing.
  • Community Support. We also partner with your town. If we’re unable to contact you during a power outage, your address may be provided to your town leaders so that they can check on your safety.

Please note that certification does not prioritize your service for faster restoration in the event of a power outage. We encourage you to have an alternate source of energy in the event of a prolonged electric interruption. This certification has no impact to medical protection already applied to your account.

We provide notification to all customers, either by letter or phone, of any planned outages that may affect their electric or gas service.
