Important Notice About Collector Treasurer Services

New Agreement with Town of Amherst

Dear Pelham Residents and Staff,

We are writing to inform you about important changes that we are implementing in the town’s collector and treasurer services. The Select Board voted on May 11, 2026 to eliminate the Collector and Treasurer positions effective May 15, 2026, and to enter into an intermunicipal agreement with the Town of Amherst to provide those services beginning July 1, 2026.

During the transition period (May 15–June 30), Sara Hunter, Principal of Mass MuniFin, has been retained to provide all collector and treasurer services and to address a backlog of pending transactions.

Contacting the office will not change. The address (351 Amherst Road), phone number (413-253-7129, ext. 3), and email (collectortreasurer@pelhamma.gov) remain the same.

New office hours:

  • Friday, June 26, 2026, 11:00am-1:00pm (Pelham)
  • Beginning July 1, Pelham's Collector Treasurer office hours will be Mondays 2:30pm-4:30pm and Wednesdays 8:00-10:00am
  • You will also have the option to visit the Central Services Counter at Amherst Town Hall, 4 Boltwood Avenue, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm.

We have heard your concerns about uncashed checks and late vendor payments. Sara Hunter and her team are addressing these immediately. Beginning July 1, Jenn LaFountain — Amherst's Treasurer/Collector and soon Pelham's as well — and her five-person team will provide efficient, timely, and reliable service.

On cost: the agreement with Amherst is comparable in the short term, with longer-term savings as employee benefit obligations are eliminated. Residents approved $50,000 from Free Cash at the May 9 Town Meeting to cover backlog resolution and expanded audit costs, and we are grateful for that support.

Thank you for your patience during this transition.

Sincerely,

The Pelham Select Board

Bob Agoglia, Tara Loomis, & Jessica Barr
